Our Facility - A Next Generation Datacenter
About Us

The Need

Phoenix NAP specifically addresses the interconnectivity and colocation needs of carriers and clients looking for flexible datacenter solutions in an environment free from catastrophes and disasters.

The Vision

Designed to be the primary network access point for all carriers in the Phoenix metro region, Phoenix NAP also strives to be a premier multi-tenant facility offering flexible datacenter solutions.

The Company

Phoenix NAP is a privately held organization of operational, networking and management professionals that have worked in the datacenter and IT fields since the early 1990s. The collective knowledge of this group is vigorously applied to design and develop a datacenter that focuses on operational performance and uptime.

The Difference

The philosophy behind Phoenix NAP is what makes it so unique. Strategically designed as a next generation facility, Phoenix NAP features the versatile connectivity, redundant power and high-efficiency cooling to meet the needs of its clients and their data-intensive requirements.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Network
Phoenix NAP features a 3,000 square foot meet-me room (MMR) specifically dedicated to IP transit and transport providers. The MMR is encased in fire-rated walls and two-person multifactor authentication is required for entry. The meet-me room also has a dedicated cross-connect room (CCR) within it to enable easy, clean connectivity between carriers and clients. Additionally, the CCR has two divergently trenched meet-me vaults (MMVs) encased in concrete and slurry. Having two dedicated MMVs allows carriers to rapidly deploy and augment their networks without having to trench into the facility.

Phoenix NAP will also feature a carrier- and client-friendly peering hub that will enable the exchange of Internet routes. Clients and carriers no longer need to backhaul peering connectivity to other sites such as Dallas or Los Angeles. To further support interconnectivity among clients and providers, Phoenix NAP does not charge monthly recurring fees on cross-connects*.

Power
To maximize uptime, Phoenix NAP is capable of providing 2N redundancy all the way back to the substation. Phoenix NAP racks can employ 2N divergently fed power circuits, should a client request such a configuration. Leveraging uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems, Phoenix NAP uses two medium voltage UPS units to protect both electrical and mechanical systems. Unlike more common systems which can be the Achilles' heel of a data center, Phoenix NAP's UPS system is in stand-by, 99% efficient (including battery cooling), and monitored 24x7 for any anomalies. To maximize scalability for clients, Phoenix NAP has four 10 megawatt feeds delivered along two different geographic paths.

Cooling
Phoenix NAP utilizes highly efficient modular chilled water plants (MCWPs). Designed to be scalable and N1 throughout, Phoenix NAP MCWPs are UL listed equipment that connect to redundant water loops, feeding the computer room air handlers (CRAH). The CRAH units leverage plug fans to move large volumes of air into all datacenter rooms in seconds, and are kept in service galleys that feed into the large datacenter rooms, which feature 36-inch raised flooring. This raised-floor environment has no cable or electrical obstructions, maximizing the amount of chilled air that can circulate.

People
Phoenix NAP personnel qualifications and approach goes beyond what you may find in a more traditional datacenter design build/operator model. With facilities, network operations center (NOC), and on-site security staff monitoring all equipment 24x7, Phoenix NAP can provide any hands-on services that are required by clients or carriers in a safe and secure environment.

For clients that want their own on-site staff at Phoenix NAP, flexible NOC environments are available. Client personnel are given access to a break room area and temporary terminals, and on-site staff is always available to help with or supplement projects as needed.
